Parents, You're Missing the Most Important Back-to-School Item

By August, my brain is living in two seasons at once. One foot still in summer, the other already knee-deep in back-to-school chaos. We’re trying to squeeze in the last of the summer fun and hunt down glue sticks, lunchboxes, and the one brand of crayons the teacher specifically asked for.
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen my video about a reading challenge that turned into an unexpected life lesson. You can watch it here: Watch the video on Instagram → A library visit turned into a quick lesson
That challenge reminded me just how much mental space we parents hold for our kids.
Once school starts, the pace of life picks up fast. Packing lunches, checking homework, signing permission slips, running to practices… it never ends.
Parents live by lists — the grocery list, the back-to-school shopping list, the “what’s-for-dinner” list. We’ve got tabs open in our brains 24/7.
Now here’s the thought that stopped me in my tracks:
If something happened to me tomorrow, who’s finishing the list?
Who’s showing up for the field trips, or handling the school emails?
More importantly — who knows where my life insurance policy is, or even that it exists?
We don’t think about these things until life forces us to. And when that happens, our loved ones are left trying to solve a puzzle with half the pieces missing.
So here’s my gentle nudge — while you’re getting your kids ready for school, take a little time to make sure your family is ready for anything. That means knowing:
Where your policies are stored
Who’s listed as a beneficiary
What steps your loved ones would take if they needed to file a claim
It’s not glamorous, but it’s essential.

I was just talking to a friend about increasing my life insurance and this is definitely the time to get it done. Thanks!
August is busy in my house as well. Back to school prep is a full-time job. I have to look into this too.
Thanks for sharing! I need to add this to my list of things to do.
